According to UN-Habitat, rapid urban growth, displacement, and the return of migrants from neighboring countries have worsened gender inequality in informal settlements.
UN-Habitat program reported on Sunday, 8 March, that all avenues for empowering women and ensuring their dignity have been eliminated under Taliban rule.
According to the report, women and girls, particularly in urban informal settlements, face these restrictions alongside unique vulnerabilities, such as insecure housing and land rights, unsafe public spaces, and limited access to water services.
On International Women’s Solidarity Day, many humanitarian organizations in Afghanistan called on the Taliban to remove restrictions on Afghan women.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a report that women in Afghanistan have only one-fourth the access to justice as men.
